We are a group of students who have received the challenge of discussing and creating a proposal for a current problem in society. In response to this, we have developed a project that addresses the reduction of gambling addiction.
We conducted a survey to truly understand how addiction occurs and what measures we could formulate to resolve this issue.
A 19-year-old is still struggling with a gambling addiction despite undergoing rehab and participating in a gamblers anonymous program. He relapsed due to constant sports betting advertisements. The legalization of sports gambling in many states is raising concerns about younger individuals developing gambling disorders. Experts emphasize the need for open conversations between parents and teenagers to address the issue and provide support. The legal gaming industry aims to protect young adults through age verification and responsible gaming measures, but illegal offshore gambling remains a concern.
Schools are encouraged to introduce new lessons on gambling and gaming awareness for 11 to 14-year-olds, with guidance provided by the Council for the Curriculum, Examinations, and Assessment (CCEA). These lessons cover various aspects of gambling and gaming, raising awareness about potential harm and educating students on the tactics used by gaming and gambling companies. The initiative aims to address the overlooked issue of gambling addiction among young people, especially in regions like Northern Ireland, where gambling participation rates are high. These lessons also inform students about the risks associated with loot boxes and skin-betting. Overall, the lessons aim to provide essential knowledge and awareness regarding the potential dangers of gambling and gaming activities.
A widespread and easy access to gambling and gaming, including sports betting and video games with gambling features, has raised concerns about the development of gambling-related problems, particularly among young people. Loot boxes in video games and simulated gambling experiences can contribute to higher risks of gambling issues, especially in adolescents. Researchers are investigating the neurological and psychological factors behind gambling addiction to improve prevention and treatment methods. Sports betting is a major concern, particularly for young adults, and initial data suggests a higher prevalence of gambling problems among sports bettors. Education and prevention programs are needed to address these issues, particularly among the youth, but such programs are currently limited in schools.
